Creative D100 Wireless Bluetooth Speaker Product Description
Creative, one of the founding fathers of the PC and Desktop multimedia industry, produced a very nice “traditional” desktop 2.0 speaker system (also wireless) which we reviewed here: Creative T12 Pure Wireless Bluetooth Computer Speaker System. As the number of quality wireless speakers are at a minimum, we went off the beaten path to review the Creative D100 which is a multi-purpose bluetooth enabled wireless speaker which you might enjoy for your desktop speaker.
The Creative D100 features a nice compact size footprint. In fact, if your work environment seems to better fit one long speaker instead of two “normal” bookshelf speakers, this might be ideal for you. You cannot overlook the convenience of using Bluetooth wireless. That means no fussy cables to deal with! Bluetooth itself can be tricky so do your research and be prepared to do some fussing around.
The Creative D100 has an impressive low-end range from its dual 3-inch drivers, making it a worthwhile addition for your desktop (or even your next outdoor get-together). Bluetooth and volume controls are conveniently spread across a small strip of plastic on the front of the device. The on/off switch, aux-in port, and power port are not as conveniently placed in the rear. You can also go with batteries (battery cover on the bottom). Four AA batteries will get you 25 hours playtime (per Creative Labs specs).
What’s To Like About The Creative D100 Wireless Bluetooth Speaker
- Battery or power plug in options
- Good battery life (25 hours)
- Wireless and aux-in cable options
- Pairing with Bluetooth is simple and easy
- Bluetooth reception excellent (as is on Creative Labs devices)
- Casing is plastic, but feels sturdy
- Fairly powerful (reportedly can fill a 25′ by 25′ room easily)
- Light enough – can carry with you around the house while playing music from portable device, laptop, desktop, etc.
Be wary of…
- Your desktop may not have Bluetooth in which case you will want to buy a USB-bluetooth transmitter such as the Creative BT-D1 Bluetooth USB transmitter
- Front cover is cloth, not hard plastic
- No remote, not necessarily a big deal if used for your desktop
- Lack of media control buttons on speaker
- No battery life indicator
The Creative D100 Wireless Bluetooth Speaker is an excellent multi purpose speakers which might be the right desktop speaker for you. If you’re looking for wireless bookshelf type 2.0 PC Speakers system, then the Creative T12 Pure Wireless Bluetooth Computer Speaker System might be for you.
But I would go with thisCreative D100 if the footprint matches what you’re looking for. It surprisingly does well enough to compare to other 2.0 PC Speakers, and is wireless, and gets a high number of positive reviews. And it’s under $100. Excellent bargain and bang for your buck.
What Buyers Are Saying
“I was looking for speakers that provided acceptable music reproduction, that were portable and easy to use, and could connect via wireless Bluetooth to a mobile phone (Motorola Droid) and iPad. The Creative D100 is light-weight and simple to unplug and move from room to room. Don’t expect this speaker system to make the walls, roof, and windows shake, although at 3/4 volume the sound fills my 20′ x 20′ living room area very nicely with Christmas jazz at a pleasant, undistorted level. It’s perfect in the master bedroom and in my home office too. I was impressed that there was absolutely no device-to-speaker signal loss all evening regardless of which music device was connected. I’m very pleased…(READ MORE)”
“The Bluetooth connection is great and seems to link to both iPad and Droid without problems (have to play with the switching a little more). Distance is much better than I thought it would be. I haven’t had a chance to check battery life. The sound is disappointing. I was expecting much better from something this large. It just sounds flat and mono-toned compared to my computer 2-speaker + powered sub (granted that isn’t the same category, but it was markedly worse)…(READ MORE)”
“They work and sound great. I have other speakers from Creative Labs and never had any problems with them. I own a pair of SBS 270 desktop speakers for my computer and have worked great for about 3 years or so. The D100 speakers have the same sound quality as the desktop speakers and should be going strong as long as the other speakers. I will be using the speakers mainly with my laptop when I get it in a couple of weeks. Looks like Creative Labs have made another quality audio product…(READ MORE)”
